Bedni Bugyal is located in the Chamoli district of the Indian state of Uttarakhand, nestled within the Garhwal Himalayas. Situated at an elevation of around 3,354 meters above sea level, Bedni Bugyal offers panoramic views of the surrounding peaks, including Trisul and Nanda Ghunti.
The trek to Bedni Bugyal typically begins from the village of Lohajung or Wan, both accessible from the town of Kathgodam. It’s approximately a 30-kilometer trek from kathgodam to Bedni Bugyal, passing through lush forests, meadows, and pristine alpine landscapes.
Bedni Bugyal is a vast alpine meadow spread over an area of approximately 28 square kilometers. During the summer months, the bugyal transforms into a colorful tapestry of blooming flowers, including rare Himalayan flora. The picturesque setting and serene ambiance make it a popular camping destination for trekkers.
The trek to Bedni Bugyal is considered easy, suitable for trekkers of all experience levels. The trail features gradual ascents and descents, with well-defined paths and occasional rocky terrain. Trekkers should be prepared for variable weather conditions, including rain and cold temperatures.
The best time to visit Bedni Bugyal is during the summer months, from May to June and September to October. During this period, the weather is pleasant, and the bugyal is in full bloom, offering breathtaking views of colorful flowers against the backdrop of snow-capped peaks.
Bedni Bugyal is renowned for its stunning natural beauty, lush meadows, and panoramic vistas of the Himalayas. It holds cultural significance as well, serving as a camping site for the annual Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra, a traditional pilgrimage that takes place once every 12 years.
Trekkers need to obtain permits from the Forest Department in Lohajung or Wan before trekking to Bedni Bugyal. These permits are necessary for entry into the area and help in preserving the fragile ecosystem of the bugyal.

It is a 6 Days and 5 Nights Trek starting from Kathgodam to Kathgodam.
The Bedni Bugyal trek is famous for its stunning Himalayan vistas, picturesque meadows, and cultural immersion opportunities amidst remote wilderness areas.
You can keep extra luggage in the base village for any particular trek. There are no cloak roo charges applicable. Its free of cost.
If you are going on a trek don’t expect mobile signals. There are few spots on the trails of few treks where you might find a single tower or something but it always depends if that is enough to make a call or not.
We use portable toilet tents for sanitation needs, as permanent structures may not available. These are dry toilets, so please bring wet wipes or tissue paper for personal hygiene.
For this trek you just need a day bag to carry during the trek, extra luggage can be left behind at the camp site. Proper bedded swiss tents are available on this trek.
Start running/walking at least 3-4 Kms everyday.
If it’s a snow trek a good trekking shoe is mandatory. If you buy a new shoe do walk for few days so that it fits you well and doesn’t leave you with blisters while you trek. If it is a summer trek or post monsoon trek a shoe with good grip and ankle support will do
It’s a strict no. If you fall sick during the trek due to alcohol consumption H2H has the right to cancel your trek and send you back to base village. No expenses shall be refunded in that case and you will have to pay additional for stay at base village.
Begin your journey from Rishikesh to Lohajung, which is at an altitude of 2,300 meters (7,800 ft). The drive covers 250 km and takes about 10 hours. Lohajung is a small hamlet and the starting point of the Bedni Bugyal trek, offering panoramic views of the surrounding peaks.
The trek starts from Lohajung to Didna Village, located at 2,450 meters (8,100 ft). The trek distance is 6-7 km and takes approximately 4-5 hours. The trail involves a gradual ascent through forests and small streams, leading to the quaint Didna village.
On this day, trek from Didna to Khobal Tal, crossing Ali Bugyal, a high-altitude meadow known for its scenic beauty. Khobal Tal is at an altitude of 3,450 meters (11,300 ft), and the trek covers 9-10 km, taking 7-8 hours. You’ll pass through rolling green meadows and enjoy magnificent views of the Himalayan ranges.
Today, trek from Khobal Tal to Ghairoli Patal via Bedni Bugyal. Bedni Bugyal, one of the largest and most beautiful alpine meadows in Uttarakhand, sits at 3,550 meters (11,650 ft), while the top is at 3,800 meters (12,550 ft). After spending some time at Bedni, descend to Ghairoli Patal at 3,200 meters (10,500 ft). The trek distance is 6-7 km and takes 4-5 hours.
Trek from Ghairoli Patal to Wan, covering 6-7 km in 5-6 hours. Wan is located at 2,450 meters (8,100 ft), from where a short drive of 16 km (45 minutes) will bring you back to Lohajung.
On the final day, drive back from Lohajung to Rishikesh, covering 250 km in about 10 hours. You should reach Rishikesh by 6:00-7:00 PM, concluding your Bedni Bugyal trek.

1. Diamox (1 Strip): An essential part of Live Saving Drugs, Diamox helps reduce the chances of Acute Mountain Sickness on the trek.
2. Dolo 650 (5 tablets): A paracetamol that tackles fever and mild pain.
3. Avomine (4 tablets): If you are prone to motion sickness, carry Avomine. Take one-half hour before the start of your road journey.
4. Combiflam (5 tablets): Useful for sudden twists or muscle strains. Combiflam is a pain reliever containing paracetamol.
5. Digene (4 tablets): Take it if you feel the food, you’ve consumed is undigested. Alert your trek leader immediately, as it could be a sign of AMS.
6. ORS (6 packs): Consume an ORS pack at least once a day, usually mid-day during your trek. It replenishes essential salts lost while trekking. Tip: It also makes cold water easier to drink.
7. Knee Brace (optional): Carry this if you are prone to knee injury or have known issues of knee pain.
